The Bunker — Intermission 2
“Okay folks, that concludes the ‘Stop the Bleeding’ segment of this training block. My assistant and I will come by and place a red mark on each of you. You will pair off and use the appropriate bandage and technique to staunch your partner’s bleeding.” Shannon began circulating among the assembled group. A former construction lead was her assistant trainer for this jobsite first aid course.
There was still much to build for the compound. Some of it was digging trenches to impede an advancing outside force, but there were a few buildings going up. The community Bob drew together included two construction workers and one SeaBee, with one more SeaBee on the way. There was also a Green Beret medic with full field surgeon training and ten years’ experience coming, but until he arrived, Shannon and the construction lead had to take responsibility for the workplace first aid training.
Pete paid close attention to Shannon’s words. Which came with difficulties. He respected her knowledge of construction site issues, given her long experience working for her dad’s company. But those fucking tits of hers were mesmerizing. Granted, she’d worn a t-shirt with a circular neck, and a light jacket over that and worn a sports bra, all to decrease the distraction her chest presented. Given the accuracy of the work going on in the various teams around him, her success was mixed, but mostly positive.
Pete, however, had seen those babies up close and personal. Every damn night. For weeks now. And, he’d seen all of those clothes going on her fantastic body too. Those exact ones, this morning, as she dressed — after their morning frisky time in which Ella blew him while Jenny and Shannon, on either side of him, took turns feeding Pete their breasts. He just hoped he picked up enough of what she was teaching to get his practical right. Shannon was not one to fuck around with jobsite safety. If he screwed the pooch, she’d flunk his ass and make him take it again.
Malcolm, Pete’s practice partner finished wrapping the tails and tucking them to properly seal Pete’s ‘wound’ on his upper arm. A few minutes later, the assistant trainer came by to approve the work. Malcolm unwrapped the bandage and sat back, ready to be ‘the patient.’ He’d been marked with an abdominal wound. Without the SF medic, if such a wound happened now, they’d have to take the risk and drive such a patient into town to the hospital. That made immediate care like this even more important.
It was also one of the more difficult wounds to deal with. It had been Jeff, the assistant trainer, that marked them, but Pete wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Shannon had suggested it. Especially given the smirk on the guy’s face.
In a low whisper, Malcolm spoke to Pete. “You want me to walk you through it? You were a bit distracted during that segment, I think.”
“No.” Pete replied. “Thanks for the offer, but if I took it, and Shannon ever found out, you and me having to retake the entire first aid training would be the least of my troubles.” Pete began slowly, carefully following the steps as he mentally ran through his memories. “I’d get an epic level ass-chewing that would include things like ‘irresponsible,’ ‘endangering others,’ and ‘disrespecting her authority.’ And she would be justified.” Pete paused for a breath. “Besides, as a card-carrying nerd, and the nephew of a prepper, I’ve read the first aid and advanced first aid manuals at least twice a year for six years now.”
Malcolm chuckled. “Well, you seem to be doing all the things I remember, so I guess you absorbed more than either of us thought.”
“So far anyway.”
Shannon and Jeff examined Pete’s work and pronounced it sufficient. They mentioned a few corrections, but nothing that warranted a fail for the task.

Later that afternoon, Pete took a break from his planning duties. He’d taken the first aid training because it would be needed at some point, but while he was available for backup labor if a project needed extra hands, Pete’s main job was planning the community layout and checking building designs. After he modified a building blueprint or selected one from the premade designs they’d downloaded online, Shannon, Jeff, and Austin — the SeaBee — looked over them to check for potential problems. Austin’s specialty was electrician, so he had overriding authority on anything electrical.
Pete escort bayan beşiktaş put the finishing touches on the latest mod. The community building design came off a prepper website and had no provision for an electrical cabinet, wiring, or ethernet. Many communities might have to go without, but this community had construction and engineering expertise, several members with deep pockets, and over a decade of planning in it. It had been Pete’s task to turn part of a janitor’s closet into the electrical space, and part of the pantry into the server space. The community building and some of the homes had satellite dishes for internet. Those that did not have a dish on their home, could access the small computer lab in the community room. This was also the computer lab for school work once that started up.
This was all predicated on the hope that the internet would continue to exist in some form, and the cloud cover from the impact would not persist more than a year at the greatest. That was not a guarantee.
Austin had already given him feedback on the electrical cabinet, which was now good to go. For the server space, Pete had done some internet research and hoped he’d gotten it right. Their computer couple were still enroute. Interstate travel was getting dicey. Some paths were still plenty safe, and nothing was full-on ‘roadblocks for tolls’ dangerous, but everyone suspected that was just around the corner. Thus, everyone traveling long distances was taking precautions. The Bunker Authority had military patrols on the routes they and their people were using. Must be nice.
With his research notes attached to justify the server space decisions, Pete headed over to Shannon’s office. She looked up when he knocked on the frame of her open door. Noticing the blueprint in his hands, her eyes lit up.
“Oh, good, gimme, gimme, gimme.”
“You’re awfully excited to see blueprints,” Pete chuckled. He kept himself from appending ‘babe’ to that sentence. From the look in her eye, she appreciated the unspoken appellation, and the restraint. Finally, he was beginning to understand this woman that shared his life for years now. All it took was a few weeks of staring deep into her eyes while they fucked each other’s brains out — with two other women in the mix.
“I’ve been staring at Gantt charts, order forms, and packing slips all damn afternoon. This is a welcome change.” She focused her attention on the blueprint, now lying on her desk.
“You’re good at that stuff though. Your dad had already turned most of that work over to you. He trusted you to get it right.”
“Yeah, as soon as he could safely dump it off on me, he ran away cackling. No one likes this shit, Pete. That’s why Austin and Jeff were more than happy to let me be in charge of the construction process. They get to do the fun shit while I slog through the paperwork. If we need more work crews, then I get to run a jobsite.”
“It’s more prestigious.”
“Still sucks.” She nibbled her lip while she examined the design, shifting back and forth between the lines on the blueprint and the supporting reasoning Pete had brought along. Pete leaned quietly against a wall. “Yeah, this looks good. Have Andrea grab a few people and get started on this.”
“Is she ready?”
“Yep. Honestly, she was ready when she got here, but she needed a gut check. Observing Austin as his second helped her realize she could do what we all need her to do.”
Andrea was a former set designer for a few theaters in the St Louis area. While she’d been swinging a hammer and designing set pieces for the better part of two decades (ever since high school freshman year theater classes) she nonetheless balked at jumping into building construction. Shannon, Austin, and Jeff, after talking with her about her background, all said they thought she could handle it, but acquiesced to her desire to get some observation time in. Since some of her sets were multistory pieces that had to hold one or more actors on the upper portions, no one really worried about her ability to build something sturdy enough to last.
“Okay then. Who do you want Andrea to take with her?”
“Have Jeff give her one person of his choosing from his team. Austin’s already losing her, and these are small spaces, so two should be plenty. Remind her to have Jeff take a look at the end of the day regarding the wiring paths.”
“You got it.” Pete picked up the pages and headed over to the residence area where Austin’s crew was making a few mods to homes. Mostly, they were adding on bedrooms, or splitting large bedrooms in two. Austin congratulated Andrea quickly when the news came in, designated someone to take her duties and went back to work. Jeff gave his congratulations as well, pointed to a twenty something guy saying he’d shown plenty of skill — and then got back to work. Pete left Andrea and her new lackey in the community house after about half an hour of discussion.

When Pete and Shannon came through the door, Ella was waiting istanbul escort for them. She greeted Pete with a warm, lingering kiss that stopped short of lewd. While Pete recovered his breath, she gave Shannon a quick hug.
“What, no kiss?” said the blonde, feigning offense.
Ella quickly placed her hands on either side of Shannon’s head and planted a kiss square on her lips. Shannon’s eyes were wide in alarm. Her mouth hung slightly open.
“Um… uh… look, I’m not, uh…”
Ella giggled. “I was just playing around. I mean, I’m up for trying it out, if you’re interested. I’ve done it before. So, I’m good with it, but I don’t have a yearning for it. For me, the best use of girl play is to get our mutual guy hard as a rock, or as part of a threesome — or moresome. There’s already three of us attached to this gorgeous man.” She fluttered her eyes at Pete with an impish smile.
Pete shifted on his feet but kept the blush off his face. Sexual innuendo was becoming a common part of his life, one he was rapidly adapting to. Sort of.
Pete cleared his throat. “Already? That suggests you anticipate more.”
“Well, baby, Linda is here now. She would make four. And who knows what will happen in the future.”
“No.”
“So, you don’t want her to come over tomorrow night?” Shannon asked.
“She’s a friend; she is welcome in my house. I’m sure tomorrow night will be fun.”
Shannon grinned and hiked her eyebrows a few times.
“You’re incorrigible.”
Shannon laughed as she and Ella took his arms, leading him to the dining room. The table was already set with four plates and sets of utensils. A large bowl with a tossed salad sat just left of center. Buttered ears of corn on a platter just right of center, with a pan of cornbread beside it. As the trio entered, Jenny came in from the kitchen entry with a platter. A moment later, a tantalizing smell hit Pete’s nose and his salivary glands went into overdrive.
Jenny giggled. “That look on your face makes this meal all worth it.”
“It smells amazing. And looks it too. Is that fish?”
Jenny placed the platter in the center. True to the smell, eight fillets, grilled nicely and sprinkled with fresh herbs, lay upon the platter.
“When did you have time to go fishing?” Shannon asked.
“Oh, I didn’t. I traded for them. Lenny Fargus wanted tomatoes, strawberries, and a few herbs. We just had that bumper crop, so I asked him for four bass. He brought the fish by just after lunch. And we still have enough tomatoes and strawberries out of this crop to make preserves and tomato sauce to set back for winter. With as many plants as your uncle planted in our greenhouse, we should get at least two more big harvests before winter sets in. Then we’ll see how well the plants survive over winter in the greenhouses.”
“And by then, we’ll start seeing the effects of the impact.” Pete interjected.
“Mmm, that too.”
“Well let’s not let this feast grow cold. That would waste all your efforts.” Shannon stated.
The four of them dug in, taking brief moments to laud Jenny for the meal. The fish had been grilled, then lightly drizzled with lemon juice and sprinkled with a bit of parsley. You could really taste the difference using fresh parsley. The bright acidity of the lemon and the mild pepperiness of the parsley perfectly complemented the flavors of the small mouth bass.
Ella insisted on washing the dishes, since Jenny had cooked and Pete and Shannon worked all day. Once done, she joined them in the living room. Jenny sketched in a small notebook. Shannon read a novel. Pete was so focused on the jigsaw puzzle he never noticed Ella come in. The others looked up to take notice before returning to their after-dinner relaxation.
The raven haired beauty softly slipped in beside Pete, molding herself to his left arm and laying her head upon his well-developed, but not bulging deltoid. The gentle pressure of her presence and the light flowery scent that accompanied her brought Pete back to the world around him. He turned his head with a smile and kissed Ella’s forehead. He put down the irregular cardboard plane in his hand and leaned back to rest against the couch. Ella smoothly moved with him, reaching a hand across to his.
Pete took the proffered hand and kissed it, then cradled it in his hand and resting it on his thigh. The two sat on the couch, enjoying the quiet closeness for some time before Ella spoke.
“Pete, how… how did you intend to… work things out? I mean, before The Rock was announced and everything. Jenny and Shannon both love you so much, what were you going to do? Were you planning to date both of them?”
Two heads, one flaming red, the other buttery blonde, turned from their tasks to await Pete’s answer.
Pete coughed. “Um, gee thanks, Ella.” The reply of feminine tittering in three part harmony didn’t really do much to allay Pete’s nerves at the uncomfortable topic. “Ok, first of all, I was utterly convinced that Shannon was not interested in the least, so my interest taksim bayan escort was irrelevant.”
Ella sat up. “Irrelevant? Really? You wouldn’t even try to persuade her?”
“It seemed rude to push for something she didn’t want.”
Shannon huffed and rolled her eyes.
“But she clearly did want you, we’ve established that quite well.” Ella said.
Pete and Shannon both blushed as Jenny laughed.
“Okay, but seriously, you wouldn’t go after what you wanted?”
“Not when I had such clear indication my interest was undesired.”
“God, Pete, you really are dense baby. I love you to pieces, but I knew without a doubt Shannon was deeply in love with you,” Jenny chuckled. “That’s why I never asked you out.”
“Well, that brings us to my other question: you said you believed Jenny was interested, so why didn’t you ask her?”
Pete squirmed and rolled his neck. “Could… could you just cut off my nuts or something? Pretty sure that would be less painful than this conversation.”
“Hell no!” Shannon exclaimed as the others agreed. “We all want babies, so stop being one and answer the question.”
“Damn, three partners and no support,” Pete groused. “You’d think I could get a little understanding here.”
“Honey,” Jenny said soothingly, “understanding comes through communication. I realize you feel a little ambushed, but as your partners, we want to understand you. We want to understand your thinking. Looking at past decisions and actions is a way to accomplish that.”
Pete closed his eyes and blew out a breath. When he opened his eyes and searched their faces, he saw empathy… and a need to hear an explanation. “I was worried that if… if I started dating Jenny, I’d screw it all up. I’d do something to ruin the relationship and she’d leave and not want to be friends anymore either.”
Jenny’s face scrunched up. “Oh baby, no. No, I want you in my life forever.”
“I’m beginning to get that now, but I didn’t know then.” Pete sucked in a breath. “Besides that, I thought Shannon would be mad.”
“Wait, if you thought I wasn’t attracted to you, why would you think I would get mad?”
“Darlin, you have many wonderful qualities, but have you ever noticed that people run like hell at the slightest sign of anger from you? I don’t know why I thought you might get angry, but I was afraid of what would happen, what I might lose if you did.”
Shannon just stared at him. It wasn’t anger in her eyes. She tried to keep her face guarded, but… maybe what she was trying to hide was… sorrow?
“Pete,” Jenny said oh so softly, “it sounds like, somewhere deep in your heart, you knew Shannon loved you, even then.”
“I hoped she would someday.” Pete’s voice caught. “I didn’t believe it could happen, but I… I hoped somehow, she would.”
Ella slipped to the other end of the couch as Shannon rose from her chair and sat beside Pete. She wrapped her arms around him, leaned in a kissed him. She nursed on his lips. For all her capacity for anger, Shannon loved deeply and well. Here in this room were the people she loved. The man she loved above all others, and the women she’d agreed to share him with.
They kissed for several minutes, undisturbed by their other two partners. Emotionally wrung out, they settled into the back of the couch, facing outward. Pete’s eyes caught Jenny’s and he remembered the conversation they’d had that first night with Shannon. “I understand now.”
Jenny looked like she had pulled inward. Water rimming the bottoms of her eyes, she nodded.
“I’m sorry,” Ella softly stated. “I didn’t mean to start something.”
“No, Ella,” Jenny replied, “this is good. These are things we need to face and share. It’s taxing to deal with emotionally, but issues like this could fester and become much bigger problems if ignored.”
Chagrined, Ella hesitated to speak again.
“Out with it,” Jenny prompted. “You have another question. Don’t let that fester.”
“Uh, okay. Well, my last question is to you. Why didn’t you ask Pete out?”
“I knew he was in love with Shannon, and vice versa. I knew he liked me, and he might even fall in love with me eventually, but he was in love with Shannon. If I tried too early, it might trigger the two of them coming together, and I would be out of the picture forever.” Jenny’s voice grew increasingly softer. Her last sentence was barely a whisper, but still heard by all. “I had to wait.”
“Wait?” Ella inquired.
Shannon and Pete focused closely on Jenny, faces open, seeking understanding and offering no judgement.
Jenny’s face looked like someone that feared a heavy judgement. “I knew Shannon was staying in town to run her dad’s construction business. Pete was going away to college for engineering. I was leaving too, to become a counselor.”
There was a pregnant feeling in the air as Jenny reassembled her nerve. “I kept tabs on which schools Pete applied to… and applied to the same ones. If… if Shannon and Pete didn’t come together by the end of high school, then maybe” she sucked in a breath, “maybe I could have him when we went away to college.” Another unsteady breath. “But, I knew… I knew if we did… have a relationship, if I could marry him, we couldn’t come back. I knew if we ever came back to this town, Shannon could easily take him from me.”
